Kartdex

Open data

Every figure in a Kartdex blog post comes from a dataset we computed ourselves, and every one of those datasets is on this page. You can download the exact file a post was written from, check our arithmetic, and use the numbers in your own work.

Licence

The figures we computed are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. Use them anywhere, including commercially, as long as you credit Kartdex with a link to the page you took them from.

Two things in these files are not ours to relicense. Venue names, prices, opening hours and requirements are facts published by the venues themselves, and we record them with the page they came from. Place names and some venue locations derive from OpenStreetMap, which is licensed ODbL 1.0 and asks you to credit OpenStreetMap contributors. If you redistribute a file that carries those fields, both credits apply. Our full source register is the data sources page.

What a snapshot is

A snapshot is frozen on the day it was computed, and the date is in the file as computedAt and on the post that uses it. We do this on purpose: a number you quote today should still mean what it meant when you read it, which live figures cannot promise. When we recompute a dataset we write a new snapshot and say so on the post.

Each file is offered twice. The JSON is the snapshot exactly as the post was written from, including the fields the post did not use. The CSV is the main table inside it, flattened, for spreadsheets.

What is not here

These snapshots are aggregates and named examples, not the venue database. We do not publish a dump of every venue, every price row and every coordinate, because much of it is other people's data held under terms that do not allow it, and because a stale copy of a directory helps nobody. If you need something we have not published, ask us and say what it is for.

How to cite

Name the figure, name Kartdex, link to the post, and give the date the figures were taken. For example: "The median European kart track charges 17.10 euros for ten minutes of driving (Kartdex, figures as of 23 September 2026)."

If you are writing something and want a number we have not published, or want to check a figure before you print it, write to us. We would rather answer a question than be quoted wrongly.
