Kartdex

For press

Kartdex is a directory of go-kart tracks across Europe. We read what each track publishes on its own website, record where every fact came from, and leave a gap empty rather than fill it with a guess. That gives us a set of figures nobody else holds, and we are glad for them to be used.

Using our figures

Quote anything on this site. Credit Kartdex with a link to the page you took it from, and give the date the figures were taken, because our numbers are frozen to a snapshot date rather than moving under your article. The underlying files are on the open data page under a Creative Commons licence, so a reader can check your arithmetic and ours.

If you want a figure we have not published, a cut by country or city, or a check on a number before you print it, write to us. We would rather answer a question than be quoted wrongly, and we can usually turn a specific request round quickly.

What we will not do

We do not have a view on which track is best, and we will not supply one. We hold no reviews, no ratings and no rankings of quality, only what venues publish about prices, hours, karts and requirements. We also will not confirm a figure we cannot source: if our answer is that we do not know, that is the answer you will get.

How the data is built

A venue enters the directory from OpenStreetMap, from a search in the local language, or from an operator's own locations page. Our crawler identifies itself and follows robots.txt; the policy is on the crawler page. Prices, opening hours and requirements are read from the venue's own pages, each stored with the sentence it came from, and a second pass checks every one against that sentence before it is published.

A venue is only listed once it has a name, a location, a website or a phone number, and either a price or opening hours. Everything else is allowed to be missing. Where we get something wrong, the correction goes through the same checks as the original.
